Book Discussion on “The Neoliberal Republic. Corporate Lawyers, Statecraft and the Making of Public-Private France (Cornell UP, 2021)“
The panel will open a discussion on the newly published book “The Neoliberal Republic. Corporate Lawyers, Statecraft and the Making of Public-Private France“ (Cornelll UP, 2021) with its author. It will be an opportunity to question how the French State and public law have been reconfigured by two decades of neoliberal policy reforms. Rather than just privatizing, State-led deregulation has contributed to profoundly transform the relation between state, markets and society with a blurring of the dividing lines between the public and the private. The book takes law, law firms and lawyers as an entry-point into this transformation, and allows to question the position of the Conseil d’Etat, administrative law and State categories (such as that of ‘general interest’) in this neoliberal repositioning of the French State.
