Book Launch – The Mimetic Evolution of the Court of Justice of the EU: a Comparative Law Perspective

This panel takes Leonardo Pierdominici‘s book “The Mimetic Evolution of the Court of Justice of the EU: a Comparative Law Perspective“ (Palgrave Macmillan 2020) as the basis for an updated discussion on the role of the European Court of Justice throughout the decades. In the spirit of the book, the discussion will firstly focus on the organizational aspects of the Court taken as an institution and their development, by adopting a theoretical/analytical approach coupled with comparative analysis. In doing so, certain special features will be highlighted: the Court‘s autonomy in shaping its own organization and the federal judicial architecture of the EU, the Court’s authority vis-à-vis political actors and national judges. The panel will critically reflect on these features, their importance in the integration project, their crucial role in the future. A discussion on the role of the Court in front of the actual challenges of the economic and rule of law crises will naturally follow.
