Foreign Interference, Elections, and Democratic Speech: Comparative Approaches to a Global Challenge

How can democracies protect their electoral processes from the harms of fake news and disinformation given the ubiquity of social media? What can be done if the electoral interference is conducted by foreign agents, organizations or states? Russian interference in the U.S. federal election in 2016 provides a vivid illustration of the threat of foreign election interference. This panel of election law scholars considers a wide array of legal responses to election interference, bringing to bear the experiences of several nations around the globe that have faced and responded to the challenge of foreign election interference. Scheduling request: We would be super grateful if we could please be scheduled for (1) UTC 19:00 – (2) UTC 20:00 – (3) UTC 21:00 or (4) UTC 11:00 — we have 2 panelists in North American EST time, 1 panelist in Europe, and 1 in New Zealand – and these are the only times that are not in the middle of the night for any of us. Thank you so much!!
