Ideology, Dissent and (Dis)Trust at Constitutional Courts in Central Europe

This panel includes papers which will shed light on the judicial dissent and (dis)trust in Austria, Hungary and Slovenia. Democratic processes are aimed at building trust in new democratic institutions like parliaments and governments. But while disagreement and dissent are at the core of democratic debates, the impression that politicians ‘can not agree on anything‘ and that their disagreements reflect ideological rather than substantial dividing lines, undermines trust in the new institutions. Is the same true of courts in new democracies?
