The future of public law in Hong Kong

For more than twenty years under Chinese rule, Hong Kong enjoyed considerable freedoms and the rule of law. However, developments in 2020-2021, including China‘s introduction of the Hong Kong National Security Law and its overhaul of Hong Kong‘s electoral systems, cast doubt on whether Hong Kong‘s liberal status can be retained. This panel considers the future of public law in Hong Kong from numerous perspectives, including the territory‘s law, judiciary, and legal profession, as well as the nature of the territory‘s legal order.
