The impact of artificial intelligence on the rule of law

Our panel aims to provide a deeper understanding of the new challenges on the rule of law set by the rise of modern technology, especially by artificial intelligence. These entities not only influence always more fields of our daily life, but also are involved in the exercise of public power in certain countries, and it is expected, that such use of artificial intelligence will spread widely in the foreseeable future. This tendency requires exceptional carefulness from us due to the growing risk of undermining the existing principles and safeguards of the rule of law. The panel will conceptualize how the current standard of fundamental right protection shall be maintained and how the different branches of law (public international law, criminal law, constitutional law) shall reflect on the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in the administrative and judicial decision-making to avoid the relativisation of numerous well-established basic frameworks.
